2008 Cruise Schedule

February 22-24 Ski Cruise at Wenatchee

Mission Ridge, Wenatchee. The week-end will be February 22 - 24, 2008.  We will be staying at the Red Lion Hotel in Wenatchee. If you wish to attend, make your room reservations by calling 1-800-733-5466 and be sure to mention that you will be with the SBYC group. We have a block of 28 rooms reserved. The room cost (group rate) will be $89.95 for one queen bed and $99.95 for two queen beds. Triple occupancy will be $109.95.  The group rate has expired, but you can still get good rates on the Internet.  Lots of snow this year.  The skiing will be great!

We will be having a cocktail party in a reserved party room at the Red Lion on the Saturday evening prior to dinner at the Mexican restaurant, “Tequila's”.  There will be the usual “hot tub” party on Saturday after skiing, and cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and snow shoeing will all be available for daytime activities.

For more information, contact Nancy Merson.

March 21-23 Spring Fling at Blake Island (a.k.a. Yellow Fest)

This event, also called Yellow Fest, is the first boating cruise of the season.  Plan to arrive early as space is on a first-come, first-served basis and we need to secure dock space.  We can raft late-comers three-deep as space allows.  We were unable to reserve the shelter so we may have to dine and party on the boats.
The highlight is the “Bottle Hunt” on Saturday afternoon.  Bring airline-sized bottles of your favorite drink(s) for this unique version of the traditional egg hunt.  See how good you are at spotting bottles hidden by Dave, Sam, and gang!  If you like, decorate your boat with yellow bunting, daffodils etc., and don’t forget to fly your burgee. Dave will be monitoring VHF channel 71 and single side band band frequency 146.880 duplex-.

Spring Fling was a great success. Many thanks to thank Sam and Dave Krause and helpers for organizing this great cruise to Blake Island. We had a turnout of 14+ boats (depending on who was counting). For most, the ride over on Friday was cold, and the trip back on Sunday very wet and windy.  However, Saturday was a glorious day with sunshine and little wind. David Horn retrieved the most bottles while the entire crew of Limmershin only snagged a total of four bottles.

May 17-18 Burger Burn at Blake Island

Last year’s Burger Burn at Blake Island was a great success and may well become an annual event. The date to put in your calendar is May 16th through the 18th.  We have reserved the center shelter for the Saturday night (May 17th).  Wood for the fire will be appreciated, otherwise just turn up and remember that you can not reserve a slip so come over on Friday if you can.

We will have the official Burger Burn on the Saturday night. Bring something to barbeque and a dish to share. This can be a last minute decision but it would help if you let John Sterry know if you plan to be there.

June 7 June Dinner Dance at Kingston - photos

The annual June Dinner Dance is Saturday night, June 7. Definitely put this date in your calendar and plan to attend this great Club event in Kingston.  You can reserve your slip now. They have four 50 ft slips, ten 40 ft slips and ten 30 ft slips that can be reserved. There are also ten first-come first-served slips available. It would be a good plan to reserve early, but in any event at least 3 days before the Dinner Dance as they have a three day minimum cut-off for reservations. You pay the first night’s moorage when you make the reservation, refundable (for a subsequent, non-reservable date within six months) if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. The number to call is Kingston Marina at 360-297-3545.

The theme this year will be “A Night at the Movies”. Start planning your costume now. The choices are almost infinite, and I am sure we will see some interesting costumes. I plan fun prizes for categories yet to be determined. That is what committees are for. Dave and Cory are once again planning the menu. I know that you will have Halibut, Ribs and other goodies for your dining pleasure. Once again, the Tropics will provide music for dancing. All this for only $40 per head. Who else but SBYC holds the line against inflation?

This is one event where it is very helpful to sign up early as we have to buy the right amount of food and drinks to minimize the balance of the expenses that the Club picks up. That’s right; this is the one event that the Club subsidizes, although last year we almost broke even due to the large number of attendees offsetting the fixed costs.

Please Email or phone John Sterry to let him know if you will be attending. It is never too early to plan!

July 3-4 Fireworks Raft Up at Poulsbo and Seattle

July 3rd and 4th we will once again celebrate at Liberty Bay for the fireworks on the 3rd and raft up at Elliot bay for more fireworks on the 4th.
August 9 Port Orchard Cruise (Hot Rod Show)

The Port Orchard Cruise (hotrod show) didn’t draw many boats last year. Actually there were only two. This may have been an aberration as this event has been well attended in the past. If there is support for this cruise we will go ahead and schedule for Sat August 9th.
September 13 TransPuget Race Party

There have been suggestions that we might want to party with the racers following the TransPuget Race on Sept 13th.  We could raft up for lunch some where nearby and return to Shilshole for the party in the evening. It is a great event with food drinks and live music for dancing.
October 3-5 Salmon Bake at Brownsville

The last cruise of the year will be the Salmon Bake, which will be held again this year at the Port of Brownsville. Seventeen boats attended last year and there was general agreement that we should go back again this year. If you don’t wish to brave the cold weather it is a relatively easy drive. Several members used this option last year. I am making reservations for the 3rd through 5th of October which, unfortunately conflicts with the Foul Weather Bluff Race. Of course we can always save some salmon for the racers!
